Evaluation of optic nerve sheath decompression(ONSD) for pseudotumor cerebri (PTC).

The only major morbidity of PTC is serious visual loss despite maximum medical therapy. Deterioration of visual field and acuity may occur despite full therapy. Optic nerve sheath decompression offers a safe and effective procedure for saving vision in these patients. Visual field is the major decision maker for surgery, and it is the major tool for follow up. Optic nerve sheath decompression is done through medial orbital transconjunctival approach, to reach the nerve sheath. The nerve sheath is opened by MVR blade making only 3 slits. The rate of visual recovery is good and the rate of complications is very low.
